A half-day plan for the prettiest white village in Andalucía — without the tour-bus crowds.

Frigiliana sits at 300 m above the coast, 35 minutes inland from Torre del Mar. It's tiny — 3,000 people — but it's been voted Spain's prettiest village more times than any other, and the Barrio Mudéjar (the old Moorish quarter) is the reason: narrow cobbled stairs, lime-white houses, blue pots, bougainvillea everywhere.
The trick is timing. Coach tours arrive at 11am from Nerja. Go early (9am) or after 5pm and you'll have the streets to yourself.
By car: 32 km, 35 minutes via A-7 east, exit 292 toward Nerja, then A-7207 inland. Free parking at the bottom of the village (Recinto Ferial). By public transport: M-250 / ALSA bus Torre del Mar → Nerja (25 min, €2.50), then bus 5 Nerja → Frigiliana (15 min, €1.50). Last bus back at 7pm, check timetables in summer.
Walk up through the Barrio Mudéjar — start at Plaza de las Tres Culturas, follow Calle Real upward, take any staircase that looks interesting. The 12 ceramic plaques tell the 1568 Morisco rebellion story. Top of the village: ruins of the old Lízar castle, panoramic views to the sea.
Bar Virtudes for menú del día under €15 with a balcony view. El Acebuchal (a tiny restored village 7 km up the dirt track) for slow Sunday lunch — book ahead. Avoid the obvious tourist places on Calle Real near the church.
Miel de caña — Frigiliana has Europe's last working sugar-cane molasses factory (Ingenio de Nuestra Señora del Carmen). Buy a jar; it's the local pancake syrup, used in goat-cheese salads and on fried aubergines all over Málaga.
About 32 km / 35 minutes by car via the A-7 and A-7207. Easiest day trip from Torre del Mar after Nerja.
No direct bus. Take the M-250 / ALSA from Torre del Mar to Nerja (25 min), then bus line 5 from Nerja to Frigiliana (15 min). Rent a car for the day if you can.
Half a day is enough. Two hours to wander the Barrio Mudéjar, an hour for lunch, an hour for the miel de caña museum and viewpoints. Stay for sunset if you can — the village turns gold.
Spring and autumn for walking weather. Late August during the Festival 3 Culturas (3 Cultures Festival) for food and music in the streets — book accommodation early.
