Car & scooter rental in Torre del Mar

Renting a car or scooter in Torre del Mar and at Málaga airport: realistic prices, the insurance and fuel policies to avoid, and when you don't need a car at all.

You do not need a car to enjoy Torre del Mar — the town, beach and restaurants are walkable and the coastal buses are frequent. You do need one for the white villages, La Maroma, the reservoirs and anything inland after about 19:00. Most people rent at Málaga airport (cheapest, most competition) rather than locally.

What it costs

Small car, low season (airport)
€8–€20 per day
Small car, July/August (airport)
€35–€70 per day
Local rental in Torre del Mar
€30–€50 per day
Scooter (125cc)
€25–€40 per day
Airport transfer instead (car, up to 4)
€45–€60 one way

How to choose

  • Full-to-full fuel policy only. 'Full-to-empty' is where cheap headline rates get expensive.
  • Either take the rental company's excess waiver or buy standalone excess insurance before you travel — not both.
  • Photograph every panel, the roof and the windscreen before leaving the bay.
  • Check your hotel or apartment has parking; Torre del Mar street parking is tight in August.
  • A small car is the right car: village streets and inland roads are narrow.

Will they speak English?

Airport desks operate in English as standard; local Torre del Mar rental offices usually do too.

FAQ

Do I need a car in Torre del Mar?
Not for the town, beach or coastal trips to Nerja and Málaga — buses cover those. You do want one for the inland white villages, hikes and reservoirs, or for evening trips.
Is it cheaper to rent at Málaga airport?
Almost always. Competition there pushes low-season rates to €8–€20 a day, well below local coastal rental offices.
